Wow, what a great benefit for your gifted students identified as leaders. The only drawback I can think of is for the students who aren't actually identified as gifted but who are leaders; they would benefit greatly from a program like this too. The author of the book I am reading would like the fact that the children are making the decisions and taking the reigns of their educational choices.

Great way to let young kids accept leadership roles. Also, very important to have guidance for the kids. From my book, engaging adolescence learners, it is a great way to have students out in the community. It allows for the school, students, and the community to come together in a positive learning experience.

I think this is a great plan to build and encourage leadership. This unit allows students the ability to give some direction and purpose to its outcome- both qualities that the author of my text appreciates regarding learners.

ReplyDeleteGiving the students the control of their own projects will prove to be so valuable for their future. I've noticed in my particular high school setting the lack of self-driven leadership activities in the school. Starting them in middle school with your plan, they will not only learn to become better leaders, but hopefully pull in others and make it "cool" to be a leader. Great idea!
I agree that this is an excellent idea and something that will be very beneficial for the students. You may have covered this in your plan but I would suggest that you ensure the projects they choose connect to the core content/standards. I'm sure you guys will have a great time doing this!
